Kenya
have now moved up six places in the latest FIFA ranking released on
Thursday from position131 to 125
globally and should be attributed to the teams 5-2 win over Mauritius in
a world cup qualifier. The tremendous improvement did not only affect
the global ranking but also in Africa were Kenya moved two places up from position 40 to 38.
Cape Verde, who are Kenya’s next opponents in World Cup qualifiers,
moved nine places up to occupy position 32 globally. Belgium are topping
the world rankings for the first time in history. The Red Devils jumped
two places in the new rankings and are now ahead of big football
nations like Argentina, Germany (world champions) and Copa America
champions, Chile.
Chile themselves are the biggest climbers in the top ten, gaining
four places while England (9th, up 1) and Austria (10th, up 1) have each
made slight progress. This is the first time that Belgium, Chile and
Austria have ever reached such heights on the global ladder.
